When Nietzsche Wept [Book Review]

A book that written by Irvin D. Yalom "When Nietzsche Wept" tells you when this philosopher first time he was revealing his loneliness because of mind sickness that almost get him suicide, after his proposal to a beautiful lady; Lou Salome was rejected. A young woman that really involved in Nietzsche's life. Nietzsche that has idea about the Death of God was treated by an Austrian physician, Josef Breuer to help him deal with his despair.

Nah, in this moment Breur was interesting in Nietzsche's study, so he proposed Nietzsche to have an exchange treatment.  Breur treating Nietzsche as a medical doctor, in return Nietzsche treated Breur as a physician, and help Breur about his life's concerns, which was more miserable than Nietzsche's case. :o

Over the exchange healing process, Breur's case was more complicated than Nietzsche's. His despair brought him to several nightmares. So he asked his closest friend, Sigmund Freud (who is my favorite psychoanalyst.. hehehe) to help by hypnotizing him.

Well in this part, Freud was really important person. A founding father of psychoanalysis and founder of cocaine made several research about hypnosis. In Freud's method, Breur was able to see the reality [prediction] of his life when he went to unlived life (simply: escape from reality, and chasing unfulfilled dream) which was recommendation from Nietzsche. And the result was simply not good enough (sorrow) :P

After the hypnotic had been done, Breur woke up with greatest remorse. He didn't want his unlived life, and return to his daily life that was too sweet to be left.

PS: If you don't have time to read it, you can watch the movie about it. However if you really want to get into details,
The book is recommended one!

Auf Wiedersehen!
